Harper’s x-Ray 1

Harper is now just over 8 weeks pregnant.  She is excited to meet her new puppies, and also very tired of being pregnant!  She had made her appointment very far in advance because Harper is just organized that way.

The day came and she asked her sister, Huxley, to accompany her to see her doctor. This is Harper’s first litter, and she’s really concerned about what to expect. Huxley was happy to come along. As Harper waited for her turn, Hux kept her entertained with her pregnancy stories and her little darlings antics. Then they talked about when they were little pupper-doodles and all the crazy things they did to drive their mama crazy! By the time Harper was called back for her x-ray, she was wondering why she had brought Huxley along… she can be such a silly girl…

Harper was to lie very still while they took her x-ray.  One reason she was anxious to have this done was because an x-ray, done with very good equipment, by a good technician gives a very accurate puppy count.  Harper needs to know how many booties she needs!

Well, take a look at that!  How many puppies do you see?  Hint, count the skulls that are attached to back bones.  There are quite a few!

The other reason that Harper chose to have an x-ray is because she wanted to know if any of the puppies are on the big side.  If she has a puppy that is too big for her little frame, and she needs a c-section, she would like to plan for it… remember I said she’s an organizer!

In this next picture, Harper’s doctor kindly marked each puppy, the skull and the backbone. How many do you see now?  Were you close?

She has 7 puppies, just like what was seen on the ultrasound.  This is not always the case!  Sometimes an ultrasound does not show all of the puppies.  Sometimes a puppy does not get a good place in the womb and for one reason or another, it does not survive.  She is also happy to report, puppies look to be a normal size, so no planned c-section.

Harper and Boomer’s due date is June 14th.  Dogs generally have their puppies within 2 days of their due date.

Harper is feeling much more relaxed, now that she has this information.  She is relaxing and feeling calm about her little ones coming.  She said to let you know that she will send you a birth announcement when the little ones make their big appearance!   She wishes you peace as you wait too.
