Our Life Has Gone to the Dogs 2

I don’t know if you realize it or not, but Pine Lodge Labradoodles is a family business.   Some people just think Pine Lodge Labradoodles is just Heidi Alcorn, some crazy dog lady.  It did begin that way.

In 2005 my husband and I were brand new empty nesters.  We decided to make a change and we moved from north of Bellingham, Washington to Silverton, Oregon.  Our children had all left home that fall.   It was the death of one of our sons dogs, Audrey Hepburn, that made me consider breeding labradoodles.  We began this adventure with 4 dogs…. And it has become our families love and obsession.

At first it was just me, with my husband helping before or after work.  Many people did not know it, because I did not want them to, but my first year raising labradoodles I was in a wheelchair!  It was a bit challenging…. But I ate a lot of humble pie, and kept rolling.

Now we have several of our children and in-law children in the family business.  My dad has also been a great help.  Even the grandchildren are so much help.  Even our children who don’t work with us, are always helping us one way or another.

I cannot say I ever had a goal to be a dog breeder.  I had no idea what fun, joy and work being an Australian Labradoodle breeder could be!  I am very thankful that these dogs were there for me, when I ended up in the wheelchair that first time… and the other couple of times.  They gave me encouragement and cause to push forward.  I am thankful for how they fill my life.  And I am thankful how it has drawn our family together.  And you know…. I am so thankful that we have found a dog that doesn’t shed!  Can you imagine what life in our house would be like then?
